Chris Carson Drafted By Seattle Seahawks
April 29, 2017 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State standout running back Chris Carson became the 21st draft pick of the Mike Gundy era and the second Cowboy draft pick of the day Saturday, as the Seattle Seahawks selected him with the 249th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
The selection marks the 119th draft selection in OSU football history.
A big, strong back with a good frame, Carson's OSU career was in its best form after he returned from injury midway through the 2016 season when he earned a reputation as a punishing runner who usually delivered the blow to defenders.
Despite missing several games in the first half of last year, Carson was OSU's second leading rusher with 559 yards on 82 carries (6.8 yards per attempt) and his nine rushing touchdowns led the team. His 10 total touchdowns tied with James Washington for the most on the team.
Carson averaged 92.8 rushing yards per game in his final four games of the season and added five rushing touchdowns during that span. He tallied a career-high 146 rushing yards in OSU's win over TCU and rushed for at least 60 yards in four other games. He also added 13 catches for 128 yards last year.
Some of his season highlights included a three-touchdown day in OSU's win at Kansas and a game-sealing play in the final minute of OSU's win over Texas Tech when he smashed through a Tech defender for a first down and took a knee.
After his impactful season, Carson was awarded with the 2016 Thurman Thomas Award as the team's outstanding offensive player and was voted a Team Captain by his teammates.
As a junior in 2015, he was OSU's leading rusher in his first year at the FBS level after wrapping up an impressive junior college career before his time as a Cowboy.
