Teel Named Big 12’s Best Again
April 24, 2017 | Cowboy Baseball
IRVING, Texas – For the second time in 2017, Oklahoma State's Carson Teel is the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the league office today.
A sophomore from Stillwater, Teel was also named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on March 13.
Teel appeared in three games for OSU last week, and the Cowboys were victorious in each. The southpaw worked 5 1/3 scoreless innings and recorded seven strikeouts while also picking up a pair of wins at No. 4 Texas Tech.
Teel opened the week as the starter in OSU's Tuesday contest against Oral Roberts and tossed a predetermined two innings, striking out two and allowing just one hit.
In the series in Lubbock, Teel made two relief appearances and was the winning pitcher both times. In the opener, he struck out three in 1 1/3 innings, coming into the game in the bottom of the sixth and recording a strikeout to strand runners on the corners in a 9-9 game and then pitching around two errors in the seventh to keep TTU off the scoreboard.
In Sunday's rubber game, Teel worked the final two frames in the Cowboys' 11-inning win. The Red Raiders loaded the bases against him with one out in the bottom of the 10th, but he worked out of the jam by getting a force out at the plate and picking up a strikeout to end the threat. He then worked a perfect 11th inning to seal OSU's 3-1 victory.
Today's honor marks the sixth Big 12 weekly award for OSU this season. Along with Teel's two honors, Garrett Benge has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week twice, while Travis Wacker and Jonathan Heasley have each collected Big 12 Newcomer of the Week accolades.
