Cowgirls Run Rule Shockers For Second Straight Win

STILLWATER ----- Oklahoma State Softball blasted 13 hits Wednesday on its way to an 11-3 win over Wichita State in six innings at Cowgirl Stadium.
The 13-hits marks the fourth-straight game the Cowgirls have reached double-digit hits. The Cowgirls have scored 32 runs in back-to-back games.Â
"Any time you can run-rule a quality opponent like Wichita State things are going our way," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. "Some timely hitting and getting people on base like we've done all year. We're just starting to take really good at-bats with runners on base. We fought through that and we worked hard. It was another great outing by Brandi Needham in the circle. Like her last one, she really pitched well through the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh."
Oklahoma State (14-9) started the scoring early thanks to a Kristin Reasnor RBI single to score two and give the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead after one.
Wichita State responded with three runs in the bottom of the third on a three-run home run to left field to take a 3-2 lead.
The Cowgirls didn't hang their heads after WSU took the lead, instead scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-3 lead. Â OSU had RBI hits from Jessi Haffner, Alex Edinger, Randee O'Donnell and Maddi Holcomb.
OSU capped off the run-rule win with four more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Taylor Lynch, Vanessa Shippy and Madi Sue Montgomery all had RBIs to help finish off the 11-3 win.
Lynch led the way offensively going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Montgomery also shined going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
In the circle, Needham (7-4) went six innings allowing just three runs to earn her seventh win and fourth complete game of the year.
Oklahoma State has outscored its midweek opponents 32-5 this week.

Up Next: Oklahoma State heads east for the Rebel Classic in Oxford, Miss. The Cowgirls are scheduled for five games against Eastern Kentucky, Jackson State, Bowling Green and Ole Miss starting March 10.Â
