March 07, 2017 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State guards Jawun Evans and Jeffrey Carroll were named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-District VI team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
The all-district selection is the latest recognition for Evans and Carroll, who were both named All-Big 12 Conference by the league and the Associated Press. Evans became Oklahoma State's 22nd All-American on Monday when the Sporting News named him third-team All-America.
Evans finished the regular season with the Big 12 lead in assists per game at 6.3 per contest. He also ranks second in scoring (18.7 ppg) and fourth in steals (1.9 spg). The sophomore is one of four power conference players to average at least 16 points and six assists per game in conference play, and KenPom ranks him sixth in their national player of the year standings.
Carroll is regarded as one of the nation's most improved players, and joins Baylor's Jonathan Motley as the only Big 12 players averaging at least 17 points and six rebounds per game this year. The Big 12's fourth leading scorer at 17.3 per game, Carroll has the highest field goal percentage of any guard in the conference (53.8 percent) and his 3-point percentage of 43.8 ranks third in the league.
The redshirt-junior has 14 20-point performances in 2016-17, including Saturday's career-high 27-point outing against Kansas.
Oklahoma State opens the Big 12 Championship on Thursday against No. 23/24 Iowa State. Tipoff is slated for 11:30 a.m. from the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo.
