PALM CITY, Fla. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened play at the Valspar Collegiate on Sunday with a 302 total to stand in 10th place at The Floridian Golf Club.
At 18-over par, the Cowboys finished the day a stroke behind Georgia Tech for ninth. Just seven strokes separate OSU from fourth place at the par-71, 7,114-yard layout. Texas A&M used a 288 team total to grab a three-shot lead.
North Texas produced the day's individual leader in Cory Churchman, who fired a 3-under 68 to stand one shot clear of the field.
OSU's Krisftoffer Ventura was one of five players to sign for a 70 and tied for fourth place. The Cowboy junior birdied the opening hole and added another at the fourth before posting a double bogey at the fifth to move over par for the first time during the round. Ventura added his third birdie of the side at the eighth to turn at level par.
After opening his inward nine with three pars in a row, Ventura posted birdies at the 13th and 14th before carding his second bogey of the day at the 16th to finish at 1-under par.
Senior Zachary Olsen opened play with a 75 to finish tied for 27th place, while sophomore Hayden Wood signed for a 78 to come in tied for 50th place.
Sophomore Zach Bauchou and freshman Viktor Hovland each posted 79s to come in tied for 59th place.
OSU will begin its second round tomorrow at 9:36 a.m. (EST) and will be grouped with Florida State and Arkansas.
