Cowboys Grab First-Round Lead In Cabo

QUERENCIA, Mexico – Oklahoma State's men's golf team fired a 273 during its first round at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate on Sunday to hold a share of the lead at Querencia Golf Club.
The Cowboys' 11-under total tied them atop the leaderboard with Texas after 18 holes. Wake Forest finished the day in third place after tallying a 277 at the par-71, 6,928-yard layout.
Wake Forest produced the first-round leader in Paul McBride, who carded a 6-under 65 to hold a one-shot lead over the field.
All five Cowboys finished the day inside the top 20 with three Pokes sharing seventh place.
Senior Zachary Olsen and sophomores Hayden Wood and Zach Bauchou all carded 68s to finish the day inside the top 10.
Olsen opened his round with a birdie at the 10th before bogeys at the 12th and 13th moved him over par. He made the turn at even par after carding a birdie at the 18th. Olsen posted his final bogey of the day at the third before carding birdies on four of his final six holes to get to his 3-under score.
Wood began his day at the 12th and opened with six consecutive pars before carding a birdie at the 18th. He moved back to level par for the day with a bogey at the eighth. However, Wood went eagle-birdie over the next two holes to move to 3-under for his round.
Beginning his day at the 14th, Bauchou eagled the par-5 15th and added a birdie at the 17th before carding his first bogey of the day at the first. After posting birdies at Nos. 4 and 5 to get to 4-under, Bauchou posted a bogey at the 12th to move back to 3-under.
Junior Kristoffer Ventura carded a 69 during his opening round to finish the day tied for 13th place.
Freshman Viktor Hovland posted a 1-under 70 to stand in a tie for 16th place.
The Cowboys will begin their second round tomorrow at 9 a.m. (CST) and will be grouped with Texas, Wake Forest and Baylor. Live scoring for the event is available at golfstat.com.
