Cowgirl Softball Drops Final Game In Clearwater

CLEARWATER, Fla. --- Oklahoma State Softball dropped its final game of the Michele Smith Invitational Sunday against Binghamton, 6-3.  The Cowgirls battled throughout the game but could not overcome four late runs by the Bearcats. Sophomore Taylor Lynch and senior Kristin Reasnor led the way for Oklahoma State going 2-for-4.Â

The Cowgirls move to 5-5 on the year and have played four nationally ranked opponents to this point.

Binghamton (2-3) took an early 2-0 on a two-run homer in the second inning. Â

Oklahoma State fought back to tie the game at 2-2 in the top half of the fourth inning. Junior Jessi Haffner started the rally after she was hit by a pitch. With two outs, junior Randee O'Donnell delivered an RBI-triple that scored Haffner. Pinch hitter freshman Hayleigh Galvan tied the game with a single through the left side scoring O'Donnell.Â

Binghamton hit its second two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to regain a 4-2 lead.

Lynch opened the fifth inning for the Cowgirls with a double to center field. She would later score the only run of the inning on an RBI single down the left field line by Reasnor.

Oklahoma State trailed 4-3 after five innings but showed great fight.
Â
Binghamton put the game away in the sixth inning after scoring two more runs and made it, 6-3. Three two-run innings proved to be the winning combination for the Bearcats.Â

The Cowgirls had six hits in the game but stranded nine runners on-base.

Sophomore Whitney Whitehorn (0-2) took the loss for the Cowgirls. Whitehorn pitched the first three innings allowing four runs on four hits.  Senior Brandi Needham and freshman Logan Simunek both pitched in relief. Needham went 2.1 innings giving up two runs on four hits. Simunek closed out the final two outs of the game.Â

UP NEXT: The Cowgirls continue non-conference action next weekend at the Mary Nutter Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.  Oklahoma State will play Long Beach State, UC-Santa Barbara, California, San Diego State and New Mexico State.Â
