Cowboy Trio Invited to 2017 NFL Scouting Combine
February 15, 2017 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER, Okla. – Three players from last season's Oklahoma State football team have received invitations to the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine – defensive tackle Vincent Taylor, running back Chris Carson and cornerback Ashton Lampkin.
The trio are among 330 players invited to the event, which will air live on NFL Network and is scheduled for Feb. 28 through March 6 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
Taylor was a 2016 first-team All-Big 12 selection by the coaches as well as the Associated Press, finishing his highly-productive career at Oklahoma State with 12 sacks, 22.5 tackles for loss and school-record five blocked kicks.
As a junior last season, Taylor was the FBS leader with four blocked kicks and ranked No. 1 among Big 12 interior linemen with 7.0 sacks. His 7.0 sacks, 57 yards from sacks, 13.0 tackles for loss and 51 total tackles last year are the most for an OSU interior defensive lineman during the Mike Gundy era (2005-present). Taylor was also named a finalist for the Piesman Trophy for his blocked PAT, recovery, run and lateral to Tre Flowers for a score in OSU's win over Texas.
Carson earned a reputation as a powerful runner during his two seasons on the OSU roster, leading the team in yards and carries as a junior then playing a prominent role as a punishing runner in last season's offense. Despite missing some time due to injury, Carson finished his senior season with a team-best nine rushing touchdowns, gaining 559 yards on 82 carries for an average of 6.8 yards per carry.
One of the most experienced players on the Cowboy roster last year, Lampkin started every game as a senior and saw time as a starter over the past three seasons. Last year, Lampkin finished with 34 total tackles, including a season-best five tackles in wins over Kansas and West Virginia. He finished his collegiate career with 12 pass breakups and five interceptions, including one against Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly on the opening possession of the 2016 Sugar Bowl, one against reigning Heisman Trophy-winner Jameis Winston in the 2014 season opener, a 50-yard pick six to seal OSU's win against UTSA in 2014 and one against Colorado to help seal a win in the last year's Alamo Bowl.
The on-field position workouts will be spread out over the course of the 2017 NFL Combine, with running backs on Friday, March 3, defensive linemen on Sunday, March 5, and defensive backs on Monday, March 6.
Oklahoma State was of three teams from the Big 12 to have three players invited to this year's combine, while West Virginia was the only school from the conference who had more with five.
