Edwards Added to Bowerman Watch List
February 01, 2017 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
NEW ORLEANS – Oklahoma State's Kaela Edwards has been added to the 2017 Bowerman Award watch list, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Wednesday.
Edwards had a noteworthy January to open 2017 that included a collegiate record-setting run in the 1,000-meter run and an improbable comeback win in the distance medley relay at the Razorback Invitational under a week ago.
The defending NCAA mile champion joins the list of nine other elite female athletes that are considered to be the best in Division I, including NCAA champions Keturah Orji of Georgia, Ariana Washington of Oregon, Mississippi's Raven Saunders and Oregon's Raevyn Rogers.
Edwards represents not only OSU, but also the Big 12 conference on the latest list as she is the only athlete from a Big 12 school on the watch list.
This is the first time a Cowgirl has ever made the watch list for the most prestigious award in track and field.
Last year, NCAA champions Nick Miller and Chad Noelle represented the Cowboys on the watch list, and NCAA champion German Fernandez was a finalist for the award in 2009.
The next update on the Bowerman Award watch list is scheduled for March 1.
