Jeffrey Carroll; The Nation's Most Improved Player
February 01, 2017 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – No player in the country can claim the level of improvement of Oklahoma State's Jeffrey Carroll, who ranks third in the Big 12 in scoring (17.2 ppg) and fourth in rebounding (7.4 rpg) in 2016-17.
The Rowlett, Texas native averaged a respectable 8.2 points and 4.0 rebounds in 30 appearances for the Cowboys last season, but turned himself into possibly the nation's most improved player in the offseason under new head coach Brad Underwood.
In fact, no other power conference player averaging at least 17 points can boast a +9 points per game improvement over his 2015-16 season. He joins Bryant "Big Country" Reeves as the only players in Oklahoma State history to jump from single-digit scoring (9.9 points or less) to more than 17 points per game from one season to the next.
Carroll finished his sophomore season with a career high performance of 18 points, but has scored more than that 11 times this season. He had a four-game stretch in January with at least 20 points, which was the first by a Cowboys since James Anderson in 2008-09.
And it's not just an increase in playing time, as Carroll's shooting percentages have skyrocketed. Carroll shot 41.0 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from 3-point last season, but has jumped to 55.8 percent from the floor (5th in the Big 12) and 45.8 percent from 3-point (2nd in the Big 12).
