OSU Leads Nation With Three CoSIDA Academic All-Americans
December 14, 2017 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Three of Oklahoma State's offensive starters were named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America team Thursday, with center Brad Lundblade and running back Justice Hill earning first team honors while Cowboy Back Britton Abbott was named to the second team.
OSU is the only Power Five team with two first-team honorees this season, and is also the only Power Five team with three selections to either the first or second teams. Dayton is the only other school with two first-team selections, while Dayton and SMU are the only other schools with three total selections.
Three CoSIDA Academic All-America honorees is also a school record for the most in one season, as is two first team selections. The three total this season gives Oklahoma State 20 CoSIDA Academic All-America honors all-time, including five in the past five years.
Lundblade, who received the honor last year, is the fifth two-time recipient in OSU history and the first since Kyle Eaton was honored in 2000 and 2002. Sporting a 3.89 grade point average in marketing and management, Lundblade was also one of 13 finalists for the National Football Foundation Campbell Trophy, known as the 'Academic Heisman.' He is also one of only three student-athletes who represent the Big 12 Conference on the NCAA Autonomy Governance Committee.
On the field, Lundblade has started 37 games at center in his career and has helped pave the way for one of the top offenses in all of college football. Thanks in part to Lundblade's work up front, Oklahoma State this season became the only team in Big 12 history to have a 4,000-yard passer, two 1,000-yard receivers and a 1,000-yard rusher in one season.
Hill is a finance major with a 3.86 grade point average who ranks among the best running backs in the nation in terms of on-field performance. He leads the Big 12 with 1,347 rushing yards and has seven 100-yard rushing games this season. Hill has been dynamic in big games, averaging 137.5 rushing yards in his four games played against ranked opponents this season. That total is better than his season average and Big 12-best average of 112.3 rushing yards per game.
A junior from Liberal, Kansas, Abbott is a second team selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-America squad. He has an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 3.95 in management and marketing and is a valuable member of one of the nation's top offenses. Abbott has started nine of OSU's 12 games this season and is a regular contributor who does his best work in blocking for others.
