November 07, 2017 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Cowboy quarterback Mason Rudolph was named a semifinalist for two national awards Tuesday, including the 2017 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award and the inaugural Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award.
Rudolph is one of 16 semifinalists in contention for the O'Brien Award, marking his second straight year to be named a semifinalist for the honor that is presented annually to the best college quarterback, and is the nation's oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award.
As one of 20 national semifinalists for the inaugural Jason Witten Man of the Year, Rudolph is the only Big 12 athlete in contention for the award, which seeks to honor the player that best demonstrates a record of leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the field.
On the field, Rudolph has quarterbacked OSU to a 29-8 career record as a starter, owns no fewer than 32 school records and last game broke another with his eighth career 400-yard passing game. He is OSU's all-time leading passer, leads the nation in passing yards this season and has a good chance to finish his career as the most efficient quarterback in school history.
Off the field, the senior out of Rock Hill, South Carolina, has been a valuable asset to the community. His volunteer work with numerous community organizations has included service with Coaches vs. Cancer, Read Across America, the YMCA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Tim Tebow's Night To Shine Prom, Future Farmers of America, Grace Living Center (Nursing Home), Stillwater Medical Center, Nike N7, University Heights Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, the Manning Passing Academy and more. He's also been recognized on various lists for the Maxwell Award, the Wuerffel Trophy, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, the Manning Award and the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
In conjunction with ESPN, the Davey O'Brien Foundation and the selection committee will release the names of the three finalists on Tuesday, Nov. 21, and the winner will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards Thursday, Dec. 7. The 41st Annual Davey O'Brien Awards Dinner will be held Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
The three finalists for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year will be named on Monday, Dec. 11 and the winner will be announced at the award ceremony on Feb. 22, 2018, at The Star in Frisco, Texas. The winner will also receive a $10,000 contribution in his name to his school's athletic scholarship fund. The contribution will be made by Jason Witten's SCORE Foundation, the official charity of Jason and his wife Michelle.
