Cowgirls Bounce Back With 94-66 Win Over Southern

STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team bounced back after its first loss of the season last week with a 94-66 victory over Southern on Thursday night in front of 1,280 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Cowgirls started slowly, but a pair of 3-pointers from Jaden Hobbs sparked the offense at the end of the first quarter.

After the redshirt freshman hit consecutive 3s from the right corner and right wing, OSU went on a 20-1 run that stretched from 1:16 remaining in the first quarter to the 4:59 mark in the second quarter.

The Cowgirls scored 16 unanswered points during that six-minute run.
Â
Sophomore Areanna Combs led the way early on with 16 points in the first half, on six-for-nine shooting from the field. She finished the game with a career-high 18 points and six assists.

Senior Mandy Coleman took over in the second half, finishing the game with 18 points. She also accounted for three rebounds and assisted four times.

OSU's defense showed once again, as it turned Southern over 19 times and limited the Jaguars to 32 percent shooting from the field. OSU scored 25 points off of the Jaguars' (1-3) miscues.

OSU dominated inside, beating the Jaguars in the paint by a 44-20 advantage.

Senior Loryn Goodwin, who currently ranks third nationally with her 4.5 steals per game, paced the Cowgirls' defensive effort with five steals. She finished the game with 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists as well.

Senior Kaylee Jensen added 11 points and eight rebounds in 14 minutes of play.

The Cowgirls (6-1) will travel to Starkville, Miss., for their next outing against Mississippi State on Sunday. The contest is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
