Postgame Notes: OSU vs Arkansas-Monticello
November 03, 2017 | Cowboy Basketball
OSU had 26 offensive rebounds in the exhibition game against the Boll Weevils. If this were a real game, it would have tied for the third most in school history with a 1986 matchup against Creighton. The last time OSU had more offensive rebounds was in 1989 (29 vs Midwestern State on Dec. 9, 1989).
Â
The Cowboys were led offensively by senior Jeffrey Carroll (19 points, 4 rebounds) and redshirt-junior Tavarius Shine (19 points, 7 rebounds). The 19 points for Shine would have been a career high if tonight's game were not an exhibition.
Â
The Cowboys finished with 49 rebounds to 23 rebounds for the Boll Weevils. It would have been the highest rebounding margin for the Cowboys since they had a school-record +35 margin against Milwaukee in 2014-15.Â
Â
The Cowboys capitalized on those offensive rebounds, for they finished with 28 second chance points to 7 for the Boll Weevils.Â
Â
OSU has now won 30 straight exhibition games. The Cowboys are 20-0 since the NCAA rule change in 2005-06 that only allows exhibition play against other college teams.
Â
Shine made his return in a Cowboy uniform after sitting out most of last year due to injury, and he made the first three shots he took, all three-pointers.Â
Â
Zack Dawson and Kendall Smith made their first appearances in an OSU uniform.
Â
Four Cowboys scored in double figures: Carroll, Cameron McGriff, Shine and Solomon.Â
Â
Both McGriff and Solomon were three rebounds shy of posting a double-double.Â
Â
The Cowboys moved to 57-4 in exhibition play since the 1973-74 season.Â
Â
Last year, Mitchell Solomon hauled in 102 offensive rebounds, which ranked 6th in OSU history. He had five in tonight's game.
Â
This was the second matchup between the two teams. Last time they played, the Cowboys won 82-47 in 1981 in Stillwater.Â
Â
OSU head coach Mike Boynton got the exhibition win in his first ever game as a head coach.
