STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team enters the final week of its regular season with a clash against Kansas looming Saturday morning at Boone Pickens Stadium.
The Jayhawks (1-10; 0-8 Big 12) currently sit at the bottom of the Big 12 standings, but their record doesn't necessarily reflect the team's on-field performance this season.
Head coach David Beaty's offense has found some success moving the ball this season. Led by quarterbacks Carter Stanley and Peyton Bender, the Jayhawks have thrown for 2,545 yards so far in 2017.
Steven Sims, Jr. is KU's top target out wide, hauling in 50 passes for 770 yards and five touchdowns. Along with Sims, KU's offense fields Ben Johnson, who has been an effective complement with his 30 catches and 363 receiving yards in 2017.
The Jayhawks have also combined to rush for more than 1,000 yards this season, with Khalil Herbert leading the group. Herbert has carried the ball 118 times for 658 yards and four touchdowns. Taylor Martin and Dom Williams have both also scored three touchdowns this season out of the backfield.
Kansas also has plenty of talent on the defensive side of the football, with junior defensive tackle Daniel Sims and linebacker Joe Dineen Jr.
Dineen has racked up 126 tackles, including 84 solo stops, so far this season. His 84 solo stops are tops in the country and he also ranks first in the Big 12 with 1.9 tackles for loss per game. Meanwhile, Daniel Sims has set a new career high with 46 total tackles this season as well as 14.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.
Oklahoma State leads the all-time series against Kansas, 35-29-3, and the Cowboys have won nine of the last 10 meetings between the squads. Mike Gundy and the Cowboys have also defeated in each of their two meetings with the Beaty-led Jayhawks.
Saturday's matchup is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CT in Boone Pickens Stadium. The game will air on Fox Sports 1.
