STILLWATER – Tied atop the Big 12 standings, No. 11 Oklahoma State and No. 5 Oklahoma meet for the 112th edition of the Bedlam Series this weekend in Stillwater.
The Sooners come into this week's contest with a 7-1 (4-1 Big 12) record on the year, but first-year head coach Lincoln Riley and his team also field the nation's top offensive unit and a feisty defense to go with it.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield has continuously made headlines this year, and he leads an offense that ranks No. 1 in the country with 586.1 yards of total offense per game. For comparison, Mason Rudolph-led Oklahoma State ranks third in the country at 569.3 yards per game, so Saturday's contest could have plenty of offensive fireworks on display.
Mayfield's 2,628 passing yards ranks eighth in the country, and third among Big 12 quarterbacks, this season. He has spread the wealth among a host of wide receivers, but Mark Andrews leads the Sooners' pack with 36 receptions for 599 yards. Coming in just behind Andrews is CeeDee Lamb, who has hauled 30 passes for 540 yards, while also scoring a team-best six touchdowns.
Oklahoma's offense also features a potent rushing attack, spearheaded by a trio of running backs. Trey Sermon (85 carries, 487 yards), Abdul Adams (45 carries, 467 yards) and Rodney Anderson (65 carries, 410 yards) make up this backfield unit, as the three have combined to rush for more than 1,200 yards and have score eight touchdowns between them.
Defensively, OU will present several obstacles for Rudolph and the Cowboys to overcome, including star linebacker Obo Okoronkwo, who ranks 12th in the nation with 1.6 tackles for loss per game. The Sooners, however, have shown to be susceptible through the air at times this season, and they currently rank 99th in FBS in team passing efficiency defense.
When it comes to Bedlam though, statistical rankings never matter. The game, like it has through the teams' first 111 meetings, will be decided on the field and the winners will claim bragging rights for the next year within the state's borders.
Saturday's matchup at Boone Pickens Stadium is scheduled to kickoff at 3 p.m. on Fox Sports 1. ESPN's wildly-popular pre-game show, College GameDay, will also originate from Stillwater this weekend, airing live from 8-11 a.m. CT.
