Tracking the Trends: OSU-Kansas State

STILLWATER – As the Oklahoma State football team prepares for its matchup with Kansas State tomorrow in Stillwater, we take a look at some streaks on the line and other trends to look out for this weekend.
Week 12 Talking Points – Offense
• Oklahoma State ranks No. 2 nationally in total offense with 573.7 yards per game. The Cowboys average 7.4 yards per offensive snap, and have had at least 428 offensive yards in every game this season - going over 500 yards in seven of 10 games. OSU averages 11.7 first quarter points and 26.2 points before the half.
• Running back Justice Hill is making a case to include his name among the top-tier of running backs in the nation. Only a sophomore, he already has 13 career 100-yard games to his credit (seven this season), and ranks first in the Big 12 and 14th nationally with 1,198 rushing yards despite playing as part of an offense that ranks No. 2 nationally in passing.
• Receiver Marcell Ateman has garnered plenty of attention for his ability to produce big plays this season. The senior caught a 30-yard touchdown pass on a 3rd-and-22 in the fourth quarter to tie the game with less than six minutes left to spur OSU to victory at Iowa State. Against Oklahoma, he came up with touchdown catches on 3rd-and-goal and 4th-and-goal plays, as well as a long catch on a 3rd-and-20 and another first down catch on a fourth-quarter 4th-and-12. He also came up with three catches for third-down conversions at Texas Tech, including a highlight-reel jump ball on OSU's game-winning drive in the final minutes.
• One of the major contributing factors to OSU's offensive success is balance. The Cowboys have attempted 400 rushes and 374 passes on the season, scoring 26 rushing touchdowns and 30 passing touchdowns. 12 different Cowboys have scored a touchdown this season and six different Cowboys have scored at least five TDs this year.
• Already OSU's all-time leading passer, Mason Rudolph continues his assault on the record book. With 448 passing yards against Oklahoma, Rudolph broke Brandon Weeden's school record with his eighth career 400-yard passing game. Rudolph has also hit the 300-yard passing mark nine times in his last 11 games, and recently set school career records for wins as a starting quarterback, passing touchdowns, completions and touchdowns responsible for.
• One of 10 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award and a midseason All-American, James Washington is the best receiver in the nation. He's gone over 100 yards receiving six times this season and he's leading all Power Five players with 115.8 receiving yards per game. Washington averages 21.85 yards per reception. He finished the Baylor game with 235 yards to match Rashaun Woods' school record of three career 200-yard games.
Week 12 Talking Points – Defense
• The Cowboy defense has twice won games this season by intercepting a pass in the end zone. Cornerback A.J. Green intercepted a pass on a 2nd-and-goal play in the corner of the end zone with 32 seconds remaining last week to seal a 49-42 win on the road at No. 24 Iowa State. Earlier this season, safety Ramon Richards intercepted a pass on a goal-to-go situation in overtime at Texas to seal a 13-10 win in Austin.
• The Cowboy defense has forced 12 turnovers in the past five games and now ranks second in the Big 12 and 19th nationally with 20 turnovers forced on the year. Some of the biggest contributors have been cornerback A.J. Green, who's intercepted four passes in the last three games, and safety Ramon Richards, who has two interceptions in the last four games.
• With last week's game-saving interception, A.J. Green now ranks ninth in FBS with four interceptions on the season. That total ranks second among all FBS underclassmen, sixth among Power Five players, second in the Big 12 and first on the OSU defense.
• OSU has forced a turnover in 24 consecutive games, including six games this season with multiple turnovers. Forcing turnovers has long been an emphasis for OSU defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer.
• In the last four games, OSU has held its opponents to a combined 16-of-58 on third downs (27.6 pct.).
• The Cowboys have blocked two punts this season. It continues a mark of success, as OSU has now blocked 21 kicks since the start of the 2013 season to lead the nation during that time span.
Notable Streaks and Trends Entering the Kansas State Game
• Oklahoma State has won 16 of its last 19 games overall.
• OSU is 14-1 in its last 15 games decided by less than 10 points.
• QB Mason Rudolph has thrown 52 touchdown passes against just nine interceptions in his last 19 games.
• Washington has at least one catch in 42 straight games - the second-longest active streak in FBS.
• Justice Hill has rushed for at least 100 yards in six of his last seven games and in 10 of his last 14 games.
• OSU is outscoring opponents, 117-48, in first quarters this year. The Cowboys have five first-quarter shutouts.
• OSU has won three straight overtime games.
• OSU has had at least one 100-yard receiver in seven of 10 games this season. Cowboy receivers have combined for 14 100-yard performances this season.
