Trio Of Cowboys Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors
November 16, 2017 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Three of Oklahoma State's offensive starters were named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District team today, with center Brad Lundblade, running back Justice Hill and Cowboy Back Britton Abbott all earning the academic recognition.
By securing Academic All-District honors, all three OSU standouts are eligible to earn a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America team. This is only the second time in school history and the first time since 2002 that the Cowboy football program has produced three CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees in the same season. Oklahoma State has had six Academic All-District selections in the last four seasons.
Sporting a 3.89 grade point average in marketing and management, Lundblade has now earned CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition three times in his career, making him only the third player in school history to be a three-time selection. He joins Tom Wolf, who accomplished the feat in 1972, 1973 and 1974 and Billy Bajema, who was honored in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Lundblade was a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American last season and has a chance to become only the fifth repeat CoSIDA Academic All-American in school history.
In addition to the academic recognition from CoSIDA, Lundblade is one of 10 finalists for the National Football Foundation Campbell Trophy, which is also known as the Academic Heisman. He is also one of only three student-athletes who represent the Big 12 Conference on the NCAA Autonomy Governance Committee.
On the field, Lundblade has started 35 games at center in his career and has helped pave the way for one of the top offenses in all of college football. Thanks in part to Lundblade's work up front, Oklahoma State is the only team in the country with a 3,000-yard passer, a 1,000-yard rusher and a 1,000-yard receiver this season.
Hill is a first-time selection to the Academic All-District team. A finance major with a 3.86 grade point average, he ranks among the best running backs in the nation in terms of on-field performance. Hill currently leads the Big 12 with 1,198 rushing yards and has seven 100-yard rushing games this season. He has been dynamic in big games, averaging 137.5 rushing yards in his four games played against ranked opponents this season. That total is better than his season average of 119.8 rushing yards per game.
A junior from Liberal, Kansas, Abbott joins Hill as a first-time selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-District squad. He has an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 3.95 in management and marketing and is a valuable member of one of the nation's top offenses. Though he hasn't had many opportunities with the ball in his hands, Abbott has started eight of OSU's 10 games this season and is a regular contributor who does his best work in blocking for others.
