STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team enters week 12 of the regular season tied for second place in the Big 12 conference and destined to clash with Kansas State in Boone Pickens Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats (5-5; 3-4 Big 12) currently sit in seventh place in the league and need to win one of their final two games to become bowl eligible. Saturday's matchup will also serve as K-State's final road trip of the season, as they'll host Iowa State in Manhattan next weekend.
Head coach Bill Snyder's offense has seen of rotation of quarterbacks leading the charge, and last weekend it was Skylar Thompson taking snaps against West Virginia. Whether it has been Thompson, Jesse Ertz or Alex Delton, K-State has been able to distribute the ball through the air, as well as move it on the ground.
Six Wildcats have tallied at least 100 total rushing yards this season. That group is led by Alex Barnes, who has amassed 593 yards on 105 carries, scoring five touchdowns in the process. The trio of quarterbacks has also shown a knack for continuing K-State's mobile-quarterback tradition. Ertz, by virtue of more carries and experience, leads that group with 336 rushing yards on 65 attempts this season.
Out wide, Kansas State fields a host of talented pass catchers, several of which have been having impressive seasons to this point.
Byron Pringle is the Wildcats' leading receiver to this point, having tallied 539 yards on 24 catches and scoring three touchdowns. Dalton Schoen and Isaiah Zuber have both also scored three receiving touchdowns this season and each has collected more than 400 receiving yards in 2017.
Defensively, K-State ranks fourth in the league in points allowed per game at 25.1. The Wildcats held each of their first four opponents under 21 points, marking the first time Snyder's team had done so in 15 years.
Kansas State has also forced six of its seven Big 12 opponents thus far to score right at or less than their season averages entering the game. The latest was West Virginia a week ago, which was averaging 42.8 points per game and scored just 28 against the Wildcats.
Oklahoma State leads the all-time series against K-State, 39-24, and the Cowboys have won six of the last eight contests against the Wildcats. OSU has defeated Bill Snyder's squad in each of the last five meetings in Stillwater, albeit only by an average of 3.8 points.
Saturday's matchup figures to be another intense showdown between two of the Big 12's mainstay programs. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at Boone Pickens Stadium on ESPN2.
