STILLWATER - After a drama-filled 49-42 victory in Ames, Iowa, Saturday, the 12th-ranked Oklahoma State football has been covered from all angles by state and local media.
The Oklahoman's John Helsey discussed the key moments from Saturday's matchup, citing Justice Hill's 52-yard burst, a shanked Iowa State punt and, at the top of the list, Marcell Ateman's two timely touchdown catches.
Ateman, a wide receiver who, at 6-4, towered over ISU's defensive backs Saturday, leapt into the air and snagged a Mason Rudolph pass from 30 yards out in the endzone to bring the Cowboys (8-2; 5-2 Big 12) back within two. Justice Hill would quickly tie it up, running into the two-point conversion to make it 42-42 and swing momentum back to OSU.
"I told Mason during the week, 'Scramble Drill' is going to be open," Ateman said after the game.
While Helsley took a look at several key moments, The Oklahoman's Scott Wright zoned in on Ateman's game-tying touchdown, citing that "the play looked like a disaster from the start, almost to the finish."
Wright noted that Ateman's touchdown wasn't the game-winning play, "but it was the game-saving play."
Moving to the other side of the state, the Tulsa World's Mark Cooper wrote about how the come-from-behind win has become a staple of the Mason Rudolph-era at Oklahoma State.
Saturday's 14-point comeback marked the sixth time in Rudolph's 38 starts that OSU has come back from a double-digit deficit to win. It was also the 10th time the Cowboys have trailed at some point during the second half and still were able to find a way to come out on top.
Cooper's Tulsa World colleague, Guerin Emig discussed how OSU has certainly provided fans with plenty of dramatics this season, and how that is something to be cherished while it exists.
"This team is a theater troupe," Emig wrote. "It can be frustrating, occasionally infuriating.
"It is also invigorating."
Another tough matchup in the ultra-competitive Big 12 could see more theatrics for Oklahoma State next week, as the Cowboys return home for a showdown against Kansas State on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
