Cowgirls Open Season In Impressive Fashion Against Incarnate Word

STILLWATER, Okla.—The Oklahoma State women's basketball team used a massive first half to open its season with a 86-35 victory Friday against Incarnate Word in front of 3,935 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Senior Loryn Goodwin was the main factor early on for the Cowgirls. She scored 12 of OSU's 30 first-quarter points. Jaden Hobbs hit three consecutive 3-pointers for the Cowgirls in the first period of play, all of which came during the Cowgirls' 19-0 run the end the quarter.

OSU went on another hefty run to end the second quarter. In the final 4:40 of the first half, the Cowgirls outscored the Cardinals, 16-2.

In total, the Cowgirls ended the first half with a 52-16 advantage.

OSU's defense led the second half. The Cardinals were limited to 35 points overall and 19 points in the second half. The Cowgirls held UIW to 29.2 percent from the field.

Sophomore Areanna Combs and junior Jentry Holt combined for 11 points to open the second half. The pair went a combined 4-for-7 to start the third quarter.
Holt ended the game with 12 points and Combs finished the contest with nine points.

Goodwin ended with team highs in points (18), assists (10) and steals (8). Her performance Friday was her first double-double of the season and was two steals shy of the second triple-double in program history.

Freshman guard Braxtin Miller scored nine points in the first game of her collegiate career.

Kaylee Jensen led the team with seven rebounds. She also contributed nine points.
The Cowgirls had 11 players score Friday.

OSU's next game is 7 p.m. Tuesday when the Cowgirls face Wichita State in Gallagher-Iba Arena for the N7 Native American Heritage Celebration game.
