STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State men's cross country squad remained in the nation's top 20 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association week six national rankings on Tuesday.
The Cowboys fell from No. 10 to No. 19 after a third-place finish in Round Rock, Texas at the Big 12 Championships, narrowly falling to No. 14 Iowa State and No. 17 Texas.
Senior Hassan Abdi finished as the Cowboys' first conference individual champion since 2015, finishing the 8K race in 24:11.2, despite losing his shoe in the middle of the race. Luis Martinez also had an impressive showing, finishing second overall behind Abdi by about a second.
The OSU women's cross country team received votes in Tuesday's poll after falling out of the top 30 in the week four rankings, but got a solid second-place finish at the Big 12 Championships behind No. 20 Iowa State.
Senior Molly Sughroue finished a respectable ninth overall in 20:35, with freshman Cheyenne Walden placing 15th in the 6K race. Four runners finished in the top 20 for the Cowgirls.
Despite falling in the rankings, the teams will have a chance to rebound shortly with the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships approaching on Nov. 10.
