Heisman Trophy Update - Mason Rudolph
October 22, 2017 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Putting up high-end numbers for a team in the Big 12 and College Football Playoff discussion, Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph is a Heisman Trophy candidate who will be playing in back-to-back showcase games the next two weeks, as the Cowboys travel to West Virginia for a full national broadcast on ABC this weekend before hosting Oklahoma in Stillwater for a high-stakes Bedlam clash on Nov. 4.
The senior out of Rock Hill, S.C., was selected to the Midseason AP All-America team and ranks No. 1 in FBS in passing yards (2,650) and passing yards per game (378.6).
In total, Rudolph ranks among the top five individuals nationally in eight different NCAA statistics. He also leads the nation in completions of at least 20, 30, 40 and 60 yards.
Additionally, he is ranked No. 2 nationally in ESPN's total QBR metric at 86.9 and is among the NCAA's active career leaders in every important passing statistic.
If the Oklahoma State football record book is any indication, then Rudolph has a legitimate argument as the best quarterback in school history.
A little more than halfway through his senior year, Rudolph owns no fewer than 30 school records, and is in position to set even more in the next couple games. His next win will give him sole possession of the school record for the most career wins as a starting quarterback with 29.
He entered 2017 with at least 14 of the top marks in Cowboy history, and he is closing in on school records for career pass completions, career touchdowns responsible for, career passing touchdowns and others.
Here's where Rudolph stands this week among the national leaders and in the OSU record book:
