What the Media Are Saying: OSU vs. Texas
October 21, 2017 | Cowboy Football
AUSTIN - The Oklahoma State football team returns to action today, as the Cowboys head to Austin looking for their fifth-straight win over Texas on the Longhorns' home turf.
After an impressive display against Baylor in Stillwater last weekend, state media has covered the Cowboys from all angles this week.
Speaking of the Cowboys' impressive winning streak in Austin, The Oklahoman's John Helsley talked about how OSU has overcome its past history against the Longhorns to make DKR Memorial Stadium its "home away from home." Oklahoma State's four-game winning streak at DKR Memorial Stadium is the longest by an opposing team in the facility's history, and is tied with Notre Dame for the longest-ever winning streak over Texas in Austin.
Saturday's matchup against Texas also provides the opportunity for another historic OSU moment for quarterback Mason Rudolph and head coach Mike Gundy, as The Oklahoman's Scott Wright pointed out.
A win in Austin would bring Rudolph, a Heisman Trophy candidate, level with his head coach for the all-time wins record by an OSU starting quarterback (28). While the record would be yet another feather in Rudolph's cap, it's his relationship with Gundy that he holds most dearly.
"It started with just ball," Rudolph said of the discussions the two had. "That comes first and it's our job. But it's a lot of fun conversations and just regular-guy talk. It's been fun to learn a different side of him than just hearing him talk at practice."
The Tulsa World's Bill Haisten put an emphasis on Rudolph this week, discussing how, in the Big 12's biggest stadium this week, he will likely have to perform better than the last time the Cowboys were in Austin.
"If he jolts Texas with his typical productivity," Haisten wrote. "Rudolph will savor another conquest of the Longhorns and look ahead to the rest of what could be a special senior season."
Kickoff for this morning's matchup at DKR Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 11 a.m. on ABC.
