Franch Enjoys Historic Season

Former Oklahoma State three-time All-American goalkeeper AD Franch completed her most successful professional season in 2017 with a long list of personal achievements and a championship.

Franch, who starred for the Cowgirls from 2009-12, helped lead Portland Thorns FC to the 2017 National Women's Soccer League Championship with a record-setting season in goal. She was named the 2017 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year and was also an NWSL Best XI selection.

The 26-year old Salina, Kan., native set an NWSL record for shutouts during the regular season with 11 and also led the league in save percentage (.800) while ranking fourth with 80 saves. Franch played every minute in goal for the Thorns in 2017 and posted a 0.83 goals-against average.

After leading the Thorns to a 14-5-5 regular season record, Franch helped carry Portland to the NWSL title, recording five saves and her 12th shutout in the championship match against North Carolina.

The No. 6 overall pick in the 2013 NWSL Draft, Franch has played three seasons in the league. As a rookie, she was an NWSL Second XI selection after leading the league in saves and posting seven shutouts for Western New York.

After missing 2014 with a knee injury, Franch played professionally in Norway in 2015 before joining Portland in 2016 and recording three shutouts in six games.

Franch owns the Oklahoma State records for career shutouts (38) and goals-against average (0.69) while ranking second with 325 saves. As a junior for the Cowgirls, she racked up a school-record 12 shutouts and posted a 0.35 goals-against average in leading OSU to 22 wins and an NCAA Elite Eight appearance.
