October 17, 2017 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State men's cross country squad dropped to No. 10 in the week five United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national poll on Tuesday.
After being ranked at No. 9 since the week two poll on Sept. 19, the Cowboys dropped a spot to Colorado State, despite winning the Penn State Open behind OSU individual champion Hassan Abdi.
They held as the highest-ranked Big 12 squad in the nation, with Iowa State ranked No. 23 and Texas right behind at No. 24.
The Cowgirls fell out of the rankings after their sixth-place finish at the Penn State Open, despite a strong running from senior Molly Sughroue, who placed ninth overall.
Iowa State remains the highest-ranked team in the conference at No. 23, with OSU and Baylor receiving votes.
The teams will recuperate this week and look to continue their success at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships on Oct. 28 in Round Rock, Texas. The Cowboys are hunting for their 10th-straight Big 12 title and the Cowgirls are looking to rebound after last year's runner-up finish.
