What the Media Are Saying After OSU vs. Baylor
October 15, 2017 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State football team's season reached the halfway point Saturday, as the Cowboys dispatched Baylor, 59-16, to improve to 5-1 (2-1 Big 12) on the year. After the win, media across the state discussed several of the talking points from Saturday's game in today's coverage.
The Oklahoman's Jenni Carlson discussed wide receiver James Washington's video game-like performance against the Bears on Saturday. Washington's teammates talked about how the Biletnikoff Award candidate was angry with himself after fumbling the football, but even in the time he was upset with himself, Washington continued to make big plays for the Pokes.
Washington finished with six catches for 235 yards, which included four receptions of at least 40 yards, against the Bears' defense Saturday.
Along with Carlson, The Oklahoman's Scott Wright put into perspective what the Cowboys' 43-point victory over Baylor meant moving forward in Big 12 play.
Wright recalled an answer from safety Tre Flowers, who was discussing how important confidence is in college football, paused and asked "We play Texas next week, right?" The one-game mentality has been vital to Oklahoma State's success in recent years, and this year's group of Cowboys has fully embraced that ideal.
Heading over to the Tulsa World, Mark Cooper noted how once the Cowboy offense found its rhythm against Baylor, it became nearly impossible to stop. He also mentioned that after the OSU offense came to life on its second drive of the game, the Cowboys did not punt again for the remainder of the contest.Â
Cooper's colleague at the Tulsa World, Guerin Emig, wrote about how Saturday's win reestablishes OSU within the conference heading into what looks like a season-defining stretch of games for the Cowboys (at Texas, at West Virginia, vs. Oklahoma and at Iowa State).
"It's great because it gives us confidence," wide reciever Jalen McCleskey said of the Cowboys' win over Baylor. "When you have a game like this, you can use the momentum to go on to this hard stretch of games."
Next up for the Cowboys in Big 12 play is a trip to Austin for a showdown against Texas next Saturday.
