September 29, 2016 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – One of the best defensive players during one of the best defensive eras of Oklahoma State football was Rodney Harding, a four-year letterman from 1981-84, who was honored with first-team All-Big Eight recognition his senior year.
To this day, Harding still appears in OSU's career top 10 for sacks (third with 31), yardage from sacks (first with 274), tackles for loss (ninth with 37) and yardage from tackles for loss (sixth with 217).
He was a significant contributor to Cowboy defensive units that ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring defense in 1983 and 1984. The 1984 squad also ranked in the top 10 nationally in total defense.
After his time in Stillwater, Harding went on to play in the Canadian Football League from 1985-96, where he became a star for the Toronto Argonauts. How good was he during his time in Canada? Well, he is included in the 2016 induction class for the CFL Hall of Fame. Here's why:

- He established himself as one of the most productive defensive players in the league during his 12-year career, amassing 253 tackles, 105 sacks, 14 fumble recoveries and five interceptions in 201 career games.
- The Toronto Argonauts' career record-holder for sacks, Harding set a CFL record when he notched five sacks in a game against Edmonton in 1988. He is second in Toronto's franchise history with 18 sacks in a single season.
- He won a Grey Cup championship with the Argonauts in 1991 and was also part of the 1987 Toronto squad that lost in the Grey Cup.
- He was a two-time CFL All-Star (1992 and 1994) and a seven-time Divisional All-Star.
- In 2012, he was honored as the 22nd member of the Toronto Argonauts' All-Time Argo squad.
