What The Media Are Saying: OSU vs. Baylor
September 24, 2016 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team travels to Baylor Saturday in its first road game and first Big 12 game of the 2016 season.
The Cowboys are fresh off of a big win over Pitt last week, while the Bears are still unbeaten on the year. There's plenty to play for in today's game.
Looking forward to the matchup, media have taken notice of the game and some of the key role players.
Jake Trotter of ESPN.com wrote about how much receiver James Washington gives to the Cowboys' offense and how much of an impact he has on the game.
Trotter noted that, "Thanks to the Pitt game, Washington is tied for third nationally in targets. And getting him the ball will be paramount if the Pokes are going to knock off Baylor on the road Saturday."
Trotter's colleague Mitch Sherman also noted earlier this week that Cowboy quarterback Mason Rudolph plays a significant role, and that a win against Baylor would give Rudolph a unique distinction.
Sherman said, "No active quarterback in the Power 5 ranks -- not Deshaun Watson, Chad Kelly, J.T. Barrett or Baker Mayfield, who tried and failed twice against Texas -- has started and beaten every opponent in his conference during his collegiate career." Rudolph would become the lone member in that club with a win in Waco.
John Tranchina of the Associated Press also had a great article on Rudolph's success, breaking down his career and development thus far.
Tranchina wrote that "it all starts with Rudolph being able to make the throw. He has demonstrated significant growth since the last time he stepped onto the field at McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas, developing from a nervous freshman into a respected team leader. Since then, he is 14-4 as a starter."
While Rudolph and Washington are both household names for Oklahoma State fans, a new name emerged this week after the performance of defensive end Cole Walterscheid. The Oklahoman's Kyle Frederickson and the Tulsa World's Mark Cooper both featured the Cowboy sophomore in their sports coverage this week, detailing how the small-town Texan grew up and found his way to OSU. Check out Frederickson's story here and Cooper's here.
With plenty of familiar names and new ones too, the Cowboys team up to take on the Bears today at 6:30 p.m. It should provide plenty of excitement, so be sure to watch it live on FOX, with Joel Klatt, Gus Johnson and Shannon Spake on the call.
