Washington, Sinor Named Big 12 Players of the Week
September 19, 2016 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wide receiver James Washington and punter Zach Sinor were both honored by the Big 12 today, as Washington was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Sinor was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.
While that marks the first conference player of the week recognition for the Cowboys this season, it is also marks the third time in Sinor's career and the second in Washington's that they have received the award.
Washington, who was also named the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week, caught nine passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Cowboys to a 45-38 victory over previously-unbeaten Pittsburgh. That's the highest receiving total in a single game for any player in the nation this season, 83 yards greater than the second-highest total and the most for any FBS player since Michigan's Jeremy Gallon had 369 receiving yards against Indiana on Oct. 19, 2013. It was also the second-best single-game mark in school history, is fourth in Big 12 history and is the most for a Big 12 player since 2012.
Washington's 32.9 yards per reception set a single-game school record (minimum seven catches) and marked the third time in Washington's career that he has averaged more than 32 yards per catch in a game. No other Cowboy has accomplished that feat more than once.
Additionally, Washington scored on the first play from scrimmage with a 91-yard touchdown catch, marking the second-longest pass reception in school history. He later added catches of 50, 43, 35, 29 and 25 yards, among his other receptions. His 231 receiving yards in the first half also set a school record.
Sinor, only a sophomore, punted six times for an average of 47.7 yards in Saturday's win over Pitt. Four of his six punts were downed inside the 20 and two of his punts were longer than 50 yards, including a 65-yard blast that matched his career long. The four punts downed inside the 20-yard line matched the fifth-best single-game total in school history.
With the game on the line in the fourth quarter, Sinor booted a 46-yarder that was downed by his teammates, a 51-yarder that was fair caught at the 10-yard line and a 34-yarder that was fair caught at the 11-yard line, not allowing a return yard to Pittsburgh's Quadree Henderson. Henderson entered the game ranked second in the ACC and 15th in the nation with 14.5 yards per punt return.
On the year, Sinor has punted 14 times, with 11 of those downed inside the opponents' 20-yard line. His 14 punts have yielded a total of only 16 return yards for opponents.
The Cowboys return to action Saturday when they open Big 12 play against Baylor in Waco, Texas.
