Washington Named Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week
September 18, 2016 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wide receiver James Washington was named the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week, the Walter Camp football foundation announced Sunday.
Â
Washington turned in a historic performance with nine catches for 296 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Cowboys to victory over previously-unbeaten Pittsburgh on Saturday.
Â
The Stamford, Texas product's 296 receiving yards are by far the most in a single game for any player in the nation this season, 83 yards greater than the second-highest total. Washington's figure is the most for any FBS player since Michigan's Jeremy Gallon had 369 receiving yards against Indiana on Oct. 19, 2013.
Â
Averaging 32.9 yards per reception, Washington set a single-game school record (min. seven catches) in that category. It also marked the third time in his career that he has averaged more than 32 yards per catch in a game. No other Cowboy has accomplished that feat more than once.
Â
Washington opened Saturday's game in style, running down a deep post from Mason Rudolph and taking it to the end zone for a 91-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. It was the second-longest pass reception in school history. He later added catches of 50 yards, 43 yards, 35 yards, 29 yards and 25 yards, among other receptions.
Â
Three weeks into the season, Washington leads the Big 12 and ranks fifth nationally in both receiving yards (399) and receiving yards per game (133.0).
