STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team wrapped up a two-hour practice session Friday morning at the Sherman E. Smith Training Center. After practice, cornerbacks coach Tim Duffie shared his thoughts:
Â
On Friday's practice:
"I thought it went well. The tempo was great. We've got a lot of guys that are rolling in there trying to get some experience. It's been very interesting to see some of the young guys and some of the newcomers get out and compete. I think everybody wants to play and improve every single day. Obviously, the veteran guys are really setting a good example for these kids."
Â
On which newcomers have stood out to him:
"I'll tell you, all of them have in their own way. Obviously Lenzy (Pipkins) has experienced playing at a high level and starting at (Louisiana Monroe)…A.J. Green has done a heck of a job. Also Rodarius Williams, along with Madre (Harper). Madre was here in the spring, so he has an idea of what we're trying to do. The two guys that weren't (here in the spring) are really catching on fast.
Â
On if Ramon Richards and Ashton Lampkin are approaching camp differently as veterans:
"Yeah, I think so. I think with Ashton, the biggest difference with him is that he's trying to vocally go out and lead and help those guys in the right way. Ramon has really calmed down. He's a high energy guy all the time, so we're always trying to get him to work efficiently. He's doing that better. It's just tough sometimes when you're out there against (James Washington) because he makes everybody look average, but he's made some plays against him too. It's just a good battle going on between those two guys."
Â
On if there are any areas he'd like to see the secondary improve on:
"I would say consistency with what we're trying to do defensively in an execution manner. We definitely have some athletic guys that run, change direction and play tough, but we've got to get on the same page on every call, every play, day in and day out doing what's right. Your athletic ability can be minimized if you're not doing what you need to do defensively.
