Scott Verplank Inducted Into Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame

OKLAHOMA CITY — Former Oklahoma State golf standout Scott Verplank was among six decorated athletes inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame earlier this week at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
The induction class is comprised of individuals who have contributed to the sports heritage of Oklahoma in a variety of ways. Joining Verplank in this year's class were Bob Barry, Jr., Brian Bosworth, former OSU pole vaulter Joe Dial, Leon Heath and Jimmy Houston.
A native of Dallas, Verplank earned first-team All-America status on three occasions for the Cowboys and captured the NCAA individual title in 1986. In 1984, he won the Big Eight crown as well as the U.S. Amateur Championship.
Verplank went on to a successful professional career that saw him play in a pair of Presidents Cups (2005, 2007) as well as two Ryder Cups (2002, 2006).
His most historic victory came in 1985 when he won the Western Open, becoming the first amateur in 29 years to win a professional event.
The 2001 Bell Canadian Open and the EDS 2007 Byron Nelson Championship were also among Verplank's PGA wins.
