August 16, 2016 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wide receiver James Washington has been named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List, announced Tuesday by SPORTyler at the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce East Texas Kick-off Luncheon.
The award recognizes the top offensive player in FBS football, citing integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity as factors in determining a winner. Additionally, nominees must meet at least one of the following criteria: born in Texas; graduated from a Texas high school; played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.
Coming off of an outstanding season in 2015, a strong case can be made for Washington as the Big 12's top receiver heading into 2016. As a second-team All-Big 12 selection by both the coaches and the media last year, he is the conference's only returning 1,000-yard receiver and led all returning Big 12 wideouts in yards per game and touchdowns last season. He was a midseason addition to the watch list for the 2015 Biletnikoff Award, and he led the nation with four 70-plus yard receptions. With 1,087 receiving yards, he became one of only four underclassmen ever at OSU to post a 1,000-yard receiving season, joining Rashaun Woods (2001), Dez Bryant (2008) and Justin Blackmon (2010).
Washington, who was also named to the 2016 Biletnikoff Award Pre-Season Watch List in July, is one of 41 players in the nation on the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List. A graduate of Stamford High School in Stamford, Texas, he is also one of 15 wide receivers and one of 12 athletes from the Big 12 included on the list.
The watch list will be narrowed to up to 16 semifinalists in November and then up to five finalists in December. Finalists will be brought to Tyler, Texas, for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet scheduled for Jan. 11, 2017.
