August 14, 2016 | Cowboy Golf
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. — Three members of Oklahoma State's men's golf team will be in action this week when play gets underway at the U.S. Amateur Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club.
Sophomore Zach Bauchou, junior Brendon Jelley and senior Zachary Olsen will all be in the 312-player field when play gets underway on Monday. The event will consist of 36 holes of stroke play before the field is trimmed to 64 players for the match play portion of the event.
Bauchou will begin his first round at 12:50 p.m. on Monday, while Jelley will get play underway at 8:10 a.m.
Olsen is competing in his fourth consecutive U.S. Amateur. In 2013, he reached the Round of 32, was a quarterfinalist in 2014 and made the Round of 64 a year ago. He will begin his first round of stroke play at 12:05 p.m. on Monday.
In 2002, Oakland Hills hosted the tournament for the first time with former Cowboy Hunter Mahan earning a runner-up finish.
In the 115-year history of the event, four Cowboys have hoisted the Havemeyer Trophy. Peter Uihlein won the event in 2010 at Chambers Bay, while Scott Verplank emerged victorious in 1984 at Oak Tree Golf Club. Bob Dickson was crowned champion at Broadmoor Golf Club in 1967 and Labron Harris, Jr., captured the title in 1962 at Pinehurst Country Club.
