Cowboys Sixth After Day One Of NCAA Action

EUGENE, Ore. — Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a 285 during the first round of action at the NCAA Championship on Friday to stand in a tie for sixth place at Eugene Country Club.
The Cowboys's 5-over score knotted them with Florida State after 18 holes at the par-70, 7,014-yard layout. OSU finished the day three shots behind TCU and Arkansas for the top spot on a tightly bunched leaderboard that saw the top 14 teams separated by just seven strokes. San Diego State, Southern California and Vanderbilt shared third place at 283.
Three players carded 67s to lead the individual race with San Diego State's Nahum Mendoza III, South Carolina's Will Starke and Vanderbilt's Theo Humphrey all turning in 3-under scores.
A trio of Cowboys signed for 71s to stand in a tie for 33rd place. Senior Jordan Niebrugge was joined by sophomores Stratton Nolen and Brendon Jelley at 1-over par for the day.
Coming off his victory at the NCAA Stillwater Regional, sophomore Kristoffer Ventura posted a 72 to stand in a tie for 52nd place.
Sophomore Sam Stevens also posted a 72 to come in tied with Ventura.
The Cowboys will begin their second round tomorrow at 9:22 a.m. (CST) and will once again be grouped with Illinois and Georgia.
