Cowboys Land Record Numbers On Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team

IRVING, Texas — Oklahoma State placed a league-best and program-record 15 student-athletes on the 2016 Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team and also set a program record with the number of first-team selections, it was announced by the conference office today.
Nine Cowboys were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, topping the program record of eight set in 2015. Highlighting the list is senior Conor Costello, who earned a spot on the first team for the third time in his career. In doing so, Costello joined former teammates Gage Green and Jon Perrin, as well as head coach Josh Holliday, as the only OSU players to earn Academic All-Big First Team accolades three times in their career.
Other Cowboys joining Costello on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team are seniors Alex Hackerott and Donnie Walton, juniors Michael Mertz, Remey Reed and Dustin Williams and sophomores Thomas Hatch, Garrett McCain and Andrew Rosa.
Six OSU student-athletes were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team, with that list including senior David Petrino, juniors Tyler Buffett and Ryan Sluder, sophomores Jacob Chappell and Jon Littell and redshirt freshman Carson Teel.
The 2016 Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team is comprised of 88 student-athletes, with 58 of those on the first team and 30 on the second. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better grade point average, while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
