Cowgirls Sweep Bedlam Series
April 09, 2016 | Cowgirl Tennis
NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma State's women's tennis team completed the season sweep of Oklahoma for the second-straight year with a 4-1 victory at the Gregg Wadley Indoor Courts on Saturday in Norman.
"It's always nice to win in Norman," coach Chris Young said. "We have talked about playing our best tennis at the end of the season and when you do that you have a chance to do something special."
With the victory, the Cowgirls (17-4; 5-0 Big 12) are the only team undefeated in Big 12 conference play. OSU outscored the Sooners 8-3 in two matches this season. The Cowgirls extended their win streak to six matches.
"Today was a good match and our girls competed well," Young said. "I feel like we are improving every match."
The doubles point was tightly contested, but the Cowgirls found a way to win and pull away from the Sooners. The Pokes have only lost one of 21 possible doubles points this season.
The doubles point was decided at the No. 3 position after both teams split the first two doubles matches.
Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic found themselves down 4-3 against Simran Sethi and Mimi Fotopoulos. The Cowgirl duo, ranked No. 50, fought back to win the next three games to clinch the point, 6-4.
Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari, ranked No. 41, cruised to a victory at the No. 2 position against Malene Stripp and Christiana Brigante, 6-1.
The Sooners forced a deciding court with a win at the No. 1 position, as Emma Devine and Lily Miyazaki defeated Maria Alvarez and Kelsey Laurente, 6-3.
Katarina Stresnakova gave OSU a 2-0 lead with a straight-set victory at the No. 4 slot. The freshman picked up her second win against Sethi this season, 6-1, 6-1.
Tur Mari defeated Brigante in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. The junior found herself down 3-2 in the second set, but was able to outlast Brigante for her 12th victory of the season.
Laurente took the first set of her match against Fotopoulos quickly, 6-1. The following set was close throughout, as Laurente was down 5-4 to the Sooner. The senior closed the match by way of a tiebreaker, 7-6 (2).
The Cowgirls return to action Friday, as College Match Day returns to Stillwater for the match against No. 12 Texas Tech at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center.
