Buffett Named Big 12's Best
March 07, 2016 | Cowboy Baseball
IRVING, Texas — Oklahoma State's Tyler Buffett has been named the Co-Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.
Â
Buffett, who shares the honor with Baylor's Daniel Castano, played a significant role in OSU's 4-1 week as he made three appearances on the mound, all in relief. In those three outings, the junior right-hander went 2-0 and did not allow a run in 6 1/3 innings of work. He also racked up 10 strikeouts while allowing only two hits and one walk.
Â
In the series finale against Incarnate Word, Buffett entered the game in the seventh inning with the score tied 2-2 and worked two innings, striking out three and allowing just one hit, to earn his first victory of the season.
Â
Buffett was also the winner in the Cowboys' series opener against Indiana State as he entered a scoreless game in the eighth inning and retired all three batters he faced, including striking out two, in a game the Cowboys went on to win 1-0.
Â
In Sunday's series finale against the Sycamores, Buffett entered the game with the bases loaded in the fifth and OSU trailing 2-0. He got out of the jam and retired 10 of the 11 batters he faced over the next 3 1/3 innings, along the way racking up five strikeouts, one shy of his career high.
Â
With his standout efforts last week, Buffett lowered his season ERA to 0.93, which ranks second in the Big 12 this season. He also ranks second in the conference with seven appearances and a .161 opponent batting average and is tied for third with 19 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings of work.Â
