Arroyo Talks Cowboy Running Backs After Practice
March 28, 2016 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team held its seventh practice of the spring Monday at the Sherman E. Smith Training Center. The Cowboys wore full pads and practiced for approximately two hours. At the conclusion of the session, running backs coach Marcus Arroyo discussed practice and the Cowboy running backs. His comments:
On how practice went:
"It was good. Another opportunity for us to go out and hone some things up and create some situations and teach some more. It was good. I think it could be better, and that's what we've got the next six or seven left to do."
On having four backs in the lineup who played last season:
"I think it's good. It's a chance for those guys to see themselves from last year on film. They pay attention to it probably a little bit more than when you put on some NFL film where you put on older guys, and guys are very intrigued to watch themselves. For me as a coach, it's good because we can find some stuff on tape that we can really highlight. Having four guys that have played is a good situation. Next year when I lose four and I've got one left in the tank then it might be a little bit different, but for right now it's a good situation to have with guys with experience."
On having several senior running backs:
"We've got four guys who at the end of next season won't be here. That's an opportunity for them to put their backs against the wall and say, 'This is my final hurrah and I've got to give it everything I've got.' That's kind of been our mantra for those guys. They can't look at it at the end of the season. They've got to look at it as 1-0. That's what we're looking at. We're trying to come out here every day and be 1-0 and worry about the next one on the next one."
On if there are any specifics the running backs are focusing on this spring:
"Getting better. There's too many specifics with our group to hone in on one thing. I think we did a nice job taking care of the football. That will never be any different. That's time-tested and infallible as far as winning in football. Taking care of the football is going to be a premium, but there's a lot of little characteristics that go as far getting better in the run game and doing things in the drill better."
