STILLWATER – Oklahoma State junior James Washington is the only 1,000-yard receiver returning in the Big 12 this year. His 1,087 receiving yards in 2015 rank fifth nationally among Power Five conference wideouts who are back in 2016.
With the Cowboys back on the practice field, Washington said his focus specific for the spring is on run after catch, blocking and route running. He said he will also increase his role as a team leader.
Should he improve in those areas and turn in a productive season in 2016, not only would it help the Cowboys as a team, but it would bring him into the discussion as one of the most productive OSU receivers of all time.
Consider this – Washington enters 2016 with career numbers that include 1,543 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns. Should he match last year's totals, he'd have 2,630 career receiving yards and 26 career touchdowns – stats that would put him behind only Rashaun Woods, Justin Blackmon, Hart Lee Dykes, Dez Bryant and D'Juan Woods on the OSU all-time lists in those two categories – and he'd still have a year of eligibility remaining.
