Cowgirls Fall To USC In Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team dropped a midweek match against USC 5-2 at Marks Stadium in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
For the first time this season the Cowgirls were not able to win the doubles point to begin the match.
The Cowgirls (11-4; 0-0 Big 12) and Trojans traded games back and forth to begin doubles play, but the Trojans outlasted OSU on courts one and two to go up 1-0.
The No. 2 match saw Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari fall to Zoë Katz and Madison Westby, 6-3. Lushkova and Tur Mari are 13-2 in doubles play this season following Wednesday's match.
The doubles point was secured on court one after the No. 8 tandem of Giuliana Olmos and Gabby Smith of USC defeated No. 15 Maria Alvarez and Kelsey Laurente, 6-3.
OSU picked up two wins in singles from Vladica Babic and Viktoriya Lushkova.
Playing at the No. 2 position, Babic took down Westby, ranked No. 101, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Babic's win gave the Cowgirls their first point of the day and made the match 2-1. Babic has eight wins so far in spring competition.
On court three, Lushkova battled through a three-set match against Katz. After dropping the first set the Cowgirl junior got on track and came away with a, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory. Lushkova improved to 12-1 on the season in singles.
All singles matches were played to completion and the Trojans took four out of six matches.
The Cowgirls return home to begin Big 12 conference play this weekend, as they host West Virginia on Saturday and Iowa State on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at noon.
