STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's winning streak reached four Monday as the 22nd-ranked Cowboys completed a series sweep of Abilene Christian with an 8-4 victory at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Â
With the win, OSU improved to 10-6 on the season, while the Wildcats fell to 8-7.
Â
The Cowboys plated runs in seven of the eight innings in which they batted, with Donnie Walton's 3-for-5, two-RBI day leading the attack. Corey Hassel and David Petrino also drove in two runs apiece for OSU.
Â
On the mound, Trey Cobb worked a career-high seven innings to earn the win and improve to 2-3. Making just his second start of 2016 and first since the season opener, the right-hander allowed two runs on seven hits and tied a career best with six strikeouts. Blake Battenfield and Remey Reed worked the final two frames to seal the win.
Â
OSU took a lead it would never surrender in its first at bat when Dustin Williams, who was named the Big 12 Player of the Week earlier in the day, gave the Pokes a 1-0 lead with an RBI single.
Â
The Cowboys failed to score in the second inning but tallied single runs in the third through seventh frames, with Hassel and Petrino picking up both of their RBIs during that span.
Â
Leading 6-2 after seven innings, the Cowboys saw ACU mount a rally in the eighth. Battenfield came out of the bullpen to open the inning, and after he walked the first batter he faced, back-to-back errors loaded the bases with no outs.
Â
The next two Wildcats – Russell Crippen and David Ruot – delivered sacrifice flies to cut the OSU lead to 6-4 before Battenfield escaped further damage with another flyout.
Â
In the bottom of the eighth, OSU got the two runs back when Walton collected a two-RBI single to center field to push the lead to 8-4.
Â
OSU returns to action Tuesday when the Cowboys travel to Dallas to take on 26th-ranked Dallas Baptist. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
