Fourth-Quarter Surge Lifts OSU To Victory Over Iowa State

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team rode a big fourth quarter to victory on Thursday night, defeating Iowa State, 71-59, in the conference opener for both squads in front of 2,759 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

With the win, OSU improved to 11-1 overall and 1-0 in Big 12 play. The Cyclones dipped to 9-3 and 0-1.

The Cyclones knocked down four 3-pointers in the first quarter en route to a 15-14 lead. ISU extended the margin to three at the break after getting three more treys. Despite the Cyclones' hot shooting and foul trouble saddling OSU junior Kaylee Jensen for much of the half, the Cowgirls trailed by just three, 34-31, at the intermission.

Jensen pulled OSU within one less than a minute into the third quarter before the Cyclones went on an 11-4 run to build their lead to eight at 45-37 with four minutes to go. The Cowgirls answered with a quick 7-0 run of their own before ISU tallied the last basket of the period to lead by three with 10 minutes to go.

The fourth quarter belonged to Jensen, who scored 16 of OSU's 27 points in the fourth period.

With Iowa State leading by six at 52-46 with 8:30 to go, Jensen got going. The Genoa, Neb., native scored 15 consecutive points, including a pair of 3-pointers, over a four-plus minute stretch to put the Cowgirls in front by seven at 63-56 with two minutes to go.

OSU knocked down six free throws in the final minute to push the margin into double digits.

Jensen finished the game with 28 points and 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the year. Echols came off the bench to add 11 points, while junior Mandy Coleman chipped in with seven points and 11 rebounds.

The Cowgirls will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on Texas Tech at 2 p.m.
