2016 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship Bracket
INDIANAPOLIS – For the third time in the last four years, Oklahoma State has been awarded an at-large bid to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship, it was announced today.
The Cowgirls, who are 9-8-3 on the season, will travel to Boulder, Colo., to take on Colorado in NCAA first-round action in a match scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (CST).
OSU is making the 10th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and its ninth in the last 11 years. The Cowgirls' first NCAA berth came in 2003, and they made six consecutive trips from 2006-11 and back-to-back appearances in 2013-14.
"It's really hard to do – there's not many teams that can say they've been in nine of the last 11 and three of the last four so we're very proud of that," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. "We've got a great tradition here at OSU. There's been a lot of hard work behind the scenes that has gone into building this program up over the years, and a lot of great players and talented kids that have helped us get there.
"Last year was very disappointing for us not being in. It's just not a fun time of year when you're sitting home and everybody else is playing. It's exciting for us, and it means a lot… To have the success we've had long term and to sustain it is what we're striving for."
Colorado enters NCAA play with a 14-5-1 record. OSU is 4-10-2 all time against its former Big 12 Conference foe, with the last meeting against the Buffaloes coming in 2010 in Stillwater in a 3-2 win for the Cowgirls.
OSU is 9-6-4 all time at the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship, with the .579 winning percentage ranking 15th all time among teams that have made at least 10 tourney appearances. The Cowgirls have advanced to at least the second round six times, including back-to-back Elite Eight appearances in 2010 and 2011.
