What the Media Are Saying: OSU vs. TCU
November 19, 2016 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – As the Oklahoma State football team heads into today's matchup with TCU in Fort Worth, several media have covered different aspects of what has made the Cowboys successful to this point this season.
Some have pointed to prominent individuals and others have highlighted the team's chemistry, but the general consensus is that Cowboys have played well to this point, evidenced by the fact that they still control their own destiny in the Big 12 title race and have hopeful post-season aspirations.
A couple individuals that were pointed out this week were running back Chris Carson and punter Zach Sinor, who is a Ray Guy Award semifinalst.
ESPN Big 12 writer Jake Trotter wrote a feature this week on Carson and how vital and improved he has been since returning from a hand injury earlier this season. Trotter writes that since his return, "Carson has brought the power between the tackles. He also gives quarterback Mason Rudolph a reliable receiver out of the backfield." It came at the perfect time, too.
Sinor was featured in the Tulsa World by OSU beat writer Mark Cooper. Cooper pointed out that the Cowboys lead the country in opponent's starting field position due largely to Sinor's ability to pin opponents deep. He also brought attention to the fact that Sinor ranks No. 1 in the country with 60.5 percent of his punts downed inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
When it comes to group efforts, The Oklahoman's John Helsley and Kyle Fredrickson both wrote about the Cowboys' sustained success due to great teamwork.
Helsley credited the Cowboy receivers' incredible performance this season to their ability to work together and for each other. Helsley writes, "It's an attitude and demeanor shared throughout OSU's receiver corps. Everybody works. Everybody blocks. Everybody waits their turn. Nobody complains. At a position where divas dominate at seemingly every level — and the Cowboys have had their share — this group is all in on each other."
A pretty impressive way to describe a group that has also been widely recognized for their extraordinary physical talent.
Fredrickson's story describes the OSU team as a whole, describing how preparation and efficiency from top-to-bottom have paved the way for the Cowboys going 8-1 in their last nine true road games.
That's a trend that the OSU faithful hope to see continue today against a talented TCU squad. Cooper gave his views on who has the edge in all of the matchups in the game, and he thinks it will be a good one.
It should be a fun one to watch, so if you can't be there in person then be sure to catch it live on FS1 at 11 a.m. with Tim Brando, Spencer Tillman and Bruce Feldman on the call.
