SUN CITY, South Africa – Behind a closing 63, former Oklahoma State All-American Alex Norén earned his fourth European Tour win of the season, claiming a six-shot victory at the Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player at Gary Player Country Club.
Norén finished at 14-under 274 and six shots clear of Jeunghun Wang to become the first Swede in European Tour history to win four times in a single season.
The win continued a remarkable season for Norén, who now has eight career European Tour wins to his credit. In addition to his win on Sunday, the Stockholm, Sweden native has victories at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, Omega European Masters and the British Masters supported by Sky Sports to his credit in 2016.
All four of his wins have come in his last 11 European Tour starts.
Norén led at the tournament's halfway point after posting rounds of 69 and 67, but fell six shots off the lead through 54 holes after carding a 75 during his third round.
During his fourth round, Norén made up ground quickly after opening with birdies at Nos. 1, 2 and 3. He followed with another at the fifth and added two more at the seventh and eighth holes to turn in 6-under 30. Norén eagled the par-5 10th and birdied the 11th to get to 9-under par for the day. After posting his lone bogey of the day at the 14th, he birdied the 16th to regain the lost stroke and closed with a pars over the final two holes to seal the victory.
With the win, he moved up to third into the Race to Dubai Rankings behind Henrik Stenson and Danny Willett.
