Rudolph Named Davey O’Brien Award Semifinalist

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph is one of 18 semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, the Davey O'Brien Foundation announced today.
The Davey O'Brien Award is presented annually to the best college quarterback in the country, and is considered the nation's oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award.
Rudolph, who has also earned Davey O'Brien "Great 8" weekly honors on four occasions this year, is in the midst of an impressive junior season as he's quarterbacked the Cowboys to a 7-2 record. He surpassed 350 yards passing in four of those wins and had 300 yards passing in a half in two of them.
Against Pitt, Rudolph finished with a school-record 540 passing yards that also represented the fourth-highest single-game figure in the nation this season. His 20.77 yards per completion in that game also set a single-game school record (min. 20 completions) and he set the tone early by completing a 91-yard touchdown pass to James Washington on the first play of the game, which marked the second-longest pass completion in school history.
Other highlights from this year came in wins over Texas (392 yards, three touchdowns), Iowa State (351 yards, four touchdowns) and Kansas State (457 yards, five touchdowns). He also went the month October without throwing an interception as he went on a streak of 163 passes without being picked off. He's one of two quarterbacks in the country who has attempted more than 320 passes with less than five interceptions, and he's the only one from a Power Five school.
Rudolph's performance this year has put him in the top-20 of several NCAA rankings, including No. 6 in passing yards
per game (332.1), No. 7 in passing yards (2,989), No. 9 in passing efficiency (161.0), No. 9 in yards per attempt (9.09), No. 12 in completions per game (23.78), No. 12 in total offense per game (333.2), No. 13 in passing touchdowns (22), No. 18 in completion percentage (65.0), No. 19 in yards per completion (13.97) and No. 19 in points responsible for (144). He also ranks third nationally in completions of at least 30 yards with 26 on the year.
Rudolph is one of three quarterbacks in the Big 12 to be named a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien award. He is joined by Texas Tech's Patrick Mahomes and Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield. The semifinalist list was compiled by the Davey O'Brien National Selection Committee, as well as an online fan vote.
In conjunction with ESPN, the Davey O'Brien Foundation and the Selection Committee will release the names of the three finalists on Tuesday, Nov. 22. The 2016 Davey O'Brien winner will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards Thursday, Dec. 8.
Fans can vote for their favorite quarterback at VoteOBrien.org until Nov. 22. The fan vote accounts for five percent of the total tally. The rest of the vote comes from the foundation's national selection committee, which is comprised of journalists, broadcasters, commentators and former winners.
The 40th Annual Davey O'Brien Awards Dinner will be held Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
