OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Oklahoma State forward Courtney Dike is one of 30 candidates for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award in women's collegiate soccer, it was announced today.
Â
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Â
A native of Edmond, Okla., Dike is in the final season of a standout career at OSU where she has excelled on and off the field.
Â
In the classroom, she carries a 3.84 grade point average and will graduate with honors in May 2017. She is working concurrently on bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting while also minoring in Spanish. A three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection, she has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll six times, while she has been on the OSU's Dean's Honor Roll five times and the OSU President's Honor Roll three. She is a three-time OSU Academic Achievement Award winner and is also the co-founder of the Business Honors College Club at OSU.
Â
On the field, Dike is a two-year captain for the Cowgirls who ranks in the top 10 on OSU's career lists in goals (28), assists (19), points (75) and shots (191). This season, she leads the Big 12 with 19 points and seven goals and is second with five assists.
Â
Dike is one of only seven players in OSU history to achieve all-conference status three times in a career as she was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team in each of her first three seasons. She is also a two-time NSCAA All-Central Region performer.
Â
Last year, Dike became the first native Oklahoman to play in the Women's World Cup when she earned two caps for Nigeria at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, and she also starred for Nigeria at the 2014 Under-20 Women's World Cup, leading the team to a runner-up finish. Â
Â
Also heavily involved in the Stillwater and Edmond communities, Dike works with the Oklahoma City Boys & Girls Club and has been involved in the Litter Blitz Trash Pickup. She is a long-time participant in annual Thanksgiving food drives and dinner events, and she also volunteers time with The Salvation Army's Angel Tree program and the Holiday Heroes Christmas Event.
Â
On the OSU campus, Dike actively participates in the Orange and Black Gives Back program, a community service organization made up of OSU student-athletes. She recently participated in a bird release program with OSU's Avian Exotic and Zoological Service.
Â
An acronym for Celebrating Loyal and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Â
The 30 women's soccer candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later this season, and those 10 names will be placed on an official ballot to be voted on by media, coaches and fans. The winner will be announced during the 2016 Women's College Cup in December.
