Cowgirl Soccer: Looking Back & Ahead

Oklahoma State won its lone match last week, picking up its first Big 12 Conference victory of the season last Friday night against Texas in Austin. OSU is 6-5-2 on the season, which includes a 1-2-0 league mark, and faces road tests at Texas Tech and Kansas this weekend.

Weekend Highlights

OSU won for the first time in five overtime matches this season with a 2-1 triumph at Texas.
Haley Woodard was the hero as she recorded the golden goal in the 104^th minute, connecting for the score after an assist from Anna Beffer.
Courtney Dike also scored for the Cowgirls, tying the game at 1-1 in the 71^st minute off a Niki McKnight free kick.
The Cowgirls' defense came up big against UT, with Michela Ongaro recording seven saves and OSU forced to defend 16 corner kicks in the match.
With the win, OSU ran its unbeaten streak against Texas to five (3-0-2).

OSU remains tied for fourth nationally with 33 goals, trailing only Clemson (37), Furman (36) and SMU (35). The Cowgirls are fifth nationally in points with 95, rank 11^th in scoring offense at 2.54 goals per game and are 14^th in assists with 29.
Fifteen different Cowgirls have scored goals this season, while 12 different players have notched assists.
Along with leading the Big 12 in goals and points, the Cowgirls rank second in assists (29).
Of OSU's 208 shots this season, 98 have been on goal (.478).
Just 13 matches into its schedule, OSU is only three goals shy of its season total from the 2015 season (33) and has already surpassed last year's assist total of 23. (The Cowgirls played 20 games a year ago).
The Cowgirls lead the Big 12 with 50 saves, with goalie Michela Ongaro ranking second in the league with 47 saves, one behind the leader.
OSU has had a different starting lineup in 11 of its 13 games. The lone matches in which the Cowgirls sent out the same starting 11 were Oklahoma and UCF. Ten Cowgirl newcomers — eight freshmen as well as a sophomore and junior transfer — have started games in 2016.
Courtney Dike is the Big 12's leading scorer with 19 points. Her seven goals is tied atop the league with West Virginia's Michaela Abam, and she is tied for second in the conference with five assists.
Dike is now tied for fifth on the OSU career charts in goals with 28 (seven shy of school record). She also ranks in the top 10 in assists (6^th with 19) and points (T-6^th with 75). She is seventh on the Cowgirls' all-time list with 191 career shots.
Dike has collected goals in seven of OSU's 13 games this season. She has recorded a goal and/or assist in nine games.
Ongaro ranks sixth on OSU's all-time saves list with 162. The junior needs just two more to crack the top five.
Along with Dike, OSU midfielders Anna Beffer and Jaci Jones rank in the top 10 in the Big 12 in assists. Beffer is tied for second with five, while Jones' four assists are tied for 10^th.
Haley Woodard is tied for fifth in the Big 12 with five goals.
In this week's official NCAA RPI, OSU came in at No. 108. Other Big 12 teams: West Virginia (2), Oklahoma (6), Kansas (25), Texas Tech (35), Iowa State (46), TCU (61), Texas (76), and Baylor (101).

OSU takes on Texas Tech Friday at 6 p.m. in Lubbock, Texas, in a game televised on FSN before traveling to Lawrence, Kan., to battle Kansas Sunday at 1 p.m.
Texas Tech is 8-2-2 on the season, which includes a 6-1-1 showing on its home field, and the Red Raiders are fifth in the Big 12 standings with a 1-1-0 conference mark. TTU was idle last weekend after opening league play with a road loss at Kansas (9/23) and a home win over Iowa State (9/25).
Jade King leads the TTU attack as the freshman forward has tallied five goals and an assist, while senior goalie Lauren Watson has recorded five shutouts and a 0.96 goals against average.
OSU is 13-6-4 all time against Texas Tech. The Cowgirls are unbeaten in their last four matches against the Red Raiders, with three of those contests ending in a tie. Last season, the two teams battled to a 2-2 draw in Stillwater.
Kansas is 8-3-2 overall and sits atop the Big 12 standings with a 3-0-0 league mark, counting wins against Texas Tech, TCU and Texas. KU hosts No. 2 West Virginia Friday night.
The Jayhawks are led by sophomore midfielder Grace Hagan, who has five goals and three assists, while senior midfielder Jackie Georgoulis ranks among the conference leaders with five assists.
OSU owns a 10-9-3 all-time record against Kansas, including a 2-0 win in Stillwater a year ago. The Cowgirls have lost their last two matches in Lawrence, both by 2-1 counts, with their last win at KU coming in 2010.
